In the dawn of a new millenia, America got thrown into a world of chaos and political debates. Gay marriage, abortion, and government programs have been on the minds of americans, young and old. Gay marriage first made it’s appearance in America’s headlines in the 1990’s and become a full out war for us now. The “Christian America” has bashed them with Bibles, and wooden crosses saying that gay marriage is codemen of God. Many view it as weird and unnatural and should be put down. Many protest have raged against it, such as Prop 8, in California, but for those that are homosexual it is a fight for their civil rights, such as Martin Luther King Jr. fought for the civil rights of African Americans. Now one by one churches are beginning to fall under pressure and support gay marriage. Now only The Catholic Church, United Methodist Church, Southern Baptist Convention, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, National Association of Evangelicals, and American Baptist Churches oppose same-sex marriage.
Now even the LDS Church is starting to show signs that it might tolerate Same sex marriage, but it still unlikely that it will support it. Do to this announcement, shortly after Utah's government finally allowed gay marriage. In the Church’s website (Mormonsandgays.org) it states, “Jesus Christ commanded us to love our neighbors. Whether sinner or saint, rich or poor, stranger or friend, everyone in God’s small world is our neighbor, including our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. Latter-day Saints believe that our true commitment to Christian teachings is revealed by how we respond to this commandment. This love is tested every day of our lives. We may know individuals with same-sex attraction in our workplaces, congregations and town halls. As people with hopes, fears and aspirations like everyone else, these neighbors deserve our love. But we can’t truly love the neighbors next door if we don’t love the neighbors under our own roof. Family members with same-sex attraction need our love and understanding. God loves all his children alike, much more than any of us can comprehend, and expects us to follow.” This view of same-sex attraction is very different from that you find in other churches that opposes gay marriage. As it says that the commandment that Jesus gave, “love one another” includes sinners and thus we need to support and love those that are sinners in our personal viewpoints. Although we may not necessarily agree with their ideas and values, they still desire our love and friendship. I find this very different from how others “bashed homosexuals with Bibles, and wooden crosses”.
Why was America founded in the first place? For freedom, and safety from prosecutions for our beliefs. Why on earth would we desecrate what the people, that founded America, died for? Why are we looking for every possible reason to prosecute someone for their lifestyles and beliefs. Those that have feelings for the same sex aren’t necessarily evil. You don’t judge someone by their looks or beliefs, you judge someone by their actions. I know many homosexuals and pansexuals that are frankly some of the best people I know. These so called “Christians” that apparently have the power to decide you gets to go the hell or heaven. Have any of you{Christians} read The Gospel of Saint Matthews lately??? Specifically Chapter 7 verses 1 and 2, “ Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” If being a Christian means anything, it means that you love everyone, regardless of their personal beliefs and looks. Having been told I’m going to Hell personally I think it’s frankly ridiculous. This isn’t about if gay marriage is right or not. It’s more than that. It’s about how to get Christians to act like Christians.
In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as other Churches that support gay marriage have express love to those who have these feelings for the same sex. Now, it’s one thing to tolerate gay marriage and it’s another thing to full make it the same thing as traditional marriage. Pastors in many churches have began performing gay weddings, and the members have accepted it. What are you doing? Many churches originally were full out against homosexuals, let alone gay marriage, and now they are performing gay marriages in their chapels! If a church keeps on changing the rules, doesn’t that say something about the church. Who is at the head of it? There so called leaders, or popular opinion? One of my favorites has you can propally already assume at this point is the LDS Church. They are one of the only churches that both tolerates homosexuals and don’t perform gay marriage. Can you imagine a gay marriage in one of their Temples? Of course not, that’s why they are going to be one of the last churches standing when this issue will be finally done with. Even a hillbilly from Arkansas can figure out that the LDS Church will never allow this. If only other churches were more like this one. The Southern Baptist Conventions for example openly preach against this church. I honestly could not stand being in a church that criticizes others for their beliefs, regardless of who they were insulting. Now I’m not just going to point out baptist, plenty of other churches do this as well. The Mormons however do as Jesus taught, “That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” If only we could be all tolerable of others, I do think America is heading in that direction, but it might be some time before we finally get there.
