My first appeared to me when I was camping with my father on the Island of Zara. My Father had told me to gather firewood for the night. While I was, walking through the forest a grass-fly was in my face and would not leave me alone. Not paying attention to my surroundings, I tripped over a Maple-wood tree root. Pain instantly ran up my leg as I moaned in pain. Looking at my left foot, I realized that my ankle was sprain, and seeing the sun start to set putted all hopes of getting back to camp in despair.
“No use in yelling, I’m too far way from camp for them to hear me,” I thought to myself while rattling my brain to find away out of this mess.
‘Crack” the sound of a twig snapping made all of the evening birds to silence their wonderful songs.
I jerked my head to the direction of the sound squinting to see in the dimly lighted forest floor. Seeing movement in the underbrush I saw it creeping out of the darkness and realized it was a Koala-cat looking towards me.
“Get out of here,” I yelled at it, waving it off.
Ignoring me it hopped across the woodland floor looking right at me, “Not looking too good are ya,”
Screaming mostly form shock the creature jumped backwards saying, “I’m just here to help you,”
Calming down I responded,” how . . . Can I understand you/”
“Because you’re one of the gifted,” snorting like that was the obvious answer.
“How you know that!” I asked in awe that he knew who I was,
“Sigh, because. . . Got to go,” he quickly said as sounds of footsteps approached towards us.
“Wait!” I yelled reaching out to grab him
“Summer, is that you,” my dad’s voice called in the darkness.
The sound of his voice brought relief to me, when he took me to a clan healer later that day who told me the talking animals were just an allusion of the pain.
“Typical ungi,” I thought.
The other one came a year later when I was fourteen years old. It was a Saturday morning in the month of Augustine when we lived in Chicago.
“Summer!” a high pitch voice cried.
“What, Blue-Robin,” I asked him.
“My mate bluely broke her wing in a tree and a dreadful Bobcat going to eat her,” it chirped fragrantly
“Hurry and show me the way!” I yelled as I jumped out of my window following him through the pastures and rivers.
Soon we stopped in front of a great big oak tree as I looked up I saw the cat bout to eat his mate.
“No!” I yelled reaching for her.
Then the bird went right to my hand with a very furious Bobcat in the tree that just lost its lunch.
“What, just happen,” I asked looking at bluely in my hand.
“RUN,” Blue-Robin shrieked as the Bobcat had started to come down the tree and charging me.
“Whoa,” I yelled as I turned around and ran for the house.
“Let’s see it I can do this again,” I thought urging my mind to move a rock nearby as it pops out of the ground and flings itself towards the bobcat in the head.
“Hiss,” it spat and ran in the tall grass.
Now that you know my gifts but let’s see . . . I know where to start right when it was my 16th birthday. The day my life change forever.
